One More Quick DeWalt NANO Update
Written by Ben Jackson
Tuesday, 25 September 2007

If you were excited about the news we just posted about the two new DeWalt tools, you should know that we just found out that both the DC927KL hammer drill and DC827KL Impact Driver will be available together as a combo kit! The DCX4230 Combo Kit includes both new NANO tools, two 18v NANO batteries, charger, and a bag. MSRP is $449.00 and should be available in October to coincide with the launch of the new Nano battery.

Also, if you pay a quick visit to DeWalt.com, you'll notice a new flash feature about the new Nano battery .  If you aren't familiar with it yet, it's worth a look, as it outlines the benefits of DeWalt's exclusive Lithium Ion Nano Phosphate technology.

Another First Look at DeWalt's new Nano Tools: DC827KL Impact Driver
Written by Ben Jackson
Tuesday, 25 September 2007

DeWalt also sent us some information about another exciting new 18v Nano product that will launch with the new Nano battery next month: the DC827KL Impact Driver.

dc827kl_1-333px.jpg

Here's what we know about the DC827KL so far:

  • 1/4" Hex Quick Release Chuck
  • 1,330 inch-pounds of torque
  • 2400 max RPM
  • 2700 max IPM (impacts/minute)
  • "Frameless" Motor Design with Replaceable Brushes for long life
  • 5 3/4" long
  • 3.7 lbs
  • Includes 2 18v DC9180 Nano Battery Packs, One Hour Charger and Heavy Duty Kit Box
  • MSRP: $349
  • LED Worklight - This may very well be the first tool from DeWalt with this feature!

This one looks like it is set to replace DeWalt's popular DW056 18v Impact Driver

We think it looks great...although at $350 (we're guessing around $300 street), it is a bit spendy. What do you think?

DeWalt just sent us some photos of two new products that will be released with the new 18v NANO battery!

The first one is the DeWalt DC927KL hammer drill

 dc927kl_1-400px.jpg

Here are some stats about DeWalt's new 18v Hammer drill:

  • Three Speed All-Metal Transmission
  • 1/2" Self-Tightening Chuck automatically tightens during operation and provides more bit gripping torque than normal keyless chucks
  • 1800 Max RPM
  • 30,600 Max BPM
  • Motor Rated at 425 UWO (Unit Watts Out)
  • 22 Clutch Settings
  • Weight 5.5lbs
  • Includes 2 18v NANO batteries, 1 Hour NANO Charger, 360º  Handle, Heavy Duty Kit Box
  • MSRP: $369
  • 3 Year Warranty, 2 year Battery Guarantee
All in all, it's similar to DeWalt's current XRP model, the DC925KB. It should be available next month and it's launch will likely coincide with the 18v NANO battery itself, which we've been told will be on October 15th.

We think the DC927KL looks awesome!  We particularly like the "N" Nano symbol on the grip. What do you think?

How to save time on the jobsite: Stabila Laser Levels
Written by Jude Herr
Monday, 24 September 2007

stabilalar100.jpgWant to save time and make more money on your jobsite? How, you ask? By speeding up production and reducing errors. You know that. The Stabila Laser Level is innovative tool that will help you do just that:

Stabila has been in the business of designing measuring and leveling instruments since 1886 when the Ullrich brothers designed and patented the spring hinge on folding rulers. Times have changed since then and Stabila has changed along with it, consistently producing innovative measuring and leveling tools ahead of the rest. Their products are accurate, easy to use and built to be durable on the construction site. img_stabilastory1.jpg

The STABILA LAPR 100 rotating laser is an automatic leveling laser used for Commercial building applications. It has a diameter range of 590ft/180m. Rather than casting a long line, the LAPR100 casts a single dot or emits a signal that causes its receiver to beep, making it perfect for outdoor use. This product is ideal for checking that foundations are level, shooting control lines so that windows and doors line up, installing wainscotting, setting kitchen cabinets, laying walls, installing decks, balustrades, and siding - all with only one person.

Five Questions for a Six-pack
Written by Jude Herr
Friday, 21 September 2007

1. Do you like to drive offroad vehicles into unmarked dangerous territory?
2. Would you drive your boat down the Niagara River, through the wicked currents under the Peace Bridge and around Grand Island coming dangerously close to the fast flowing water that drops over Niagara Falls?
3. Do you drive an RV? Do you let that same RV sit idle for long periods of time(like several months)?
4. Do you like to go camping -- and crank your tunes?
5. Do you like to drive out to the quiet wilderness, where few brave souls venture, to get away from it all, pop open a six-pack and pop in a DVD to shut up your kids?

If you have answered yes to any or all of the above, then read on:

optimabattery.jpgOptima batteries last twice as long as the average battery. Their unique leak-proof, vibration resistant six-pack design makes them the obvious choice for folks who drive off road vehicles, boats, tractors, and harvesters. Optima batteries have an extended shelf life which makes them ideal for vehicles that are used seasonally. Because of their low self-discharge rate, they can sit unused for long periods of time and still retain a significant amount of power, enough to start a large RV, tractor, harvester and even boats that have been stored after a long winter of no use.

Do you like to go camping and crank up the tunes or keep the kids occupied watching DVD's? This battery has the running time that you need. The tightly wound construction in an OPTIMA minimizes plate movement and subsequent damage caused by harsh conditions, extending battery life and taking away the need for RV hook-ups.

Damage from heat is the leading cause of battery failure but even in extreme heat environments, OPTIMA batteries last twice as long as traditional batteries. Whatever your vehicular battery needs are, OPTIMA has one that will work in a YellowTop, BlueTop or RedTop. The key is in the SpiralCell Technology which extends the life of the battery with its superior vibration resistance.

Installing an OPTIMA battery in your vehicle means having more time to play.  Got a problem with that?

Matt Kenseth's #17 DeWalt Race Car Gets A New Nano Paint Job
Written by Ben Jackson
Thursday, 20 September 2007

kenseth-nano.jpgDeWalt sponsored NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth's car just got a new paint job to promote DeWalt's exclusive NANO battery technology. With the imminent launch of the new 18v Lithium Ion Nano Phosphate battery, the timing couldn't be more perfect.

The new yellow on black paint job is pretty striking, if we do say so ourselves. It's a nice change from the previous black on yellow scheme that Matt Kenseth has used for the past few years. The Nano's "N" symbol is just cool looking. Our props to the graphic designer who came up with it.

The new NANO car will debut at the Dover 200 on September 22nd. We hope he wins!

Bamboo Flooring

floorbizbamboo.jpgBamboo Flooring: An Eco-friendly and Stylish Upgrade to Your Home

Looking for an eco-friendly and stylish upgrade for you house? Try replacing your carpeting and/or linoleum flooring with Bamboo flooring. While an oak tree takes 30 years to grow large enough to harvest, the same amount of bamboo can be harvested every 3-5 years. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, growing one third faster than the fastest growing tree. Some species of bamboo grow as much as four feet a day. One bamboo clump can produce 200 poles in the five years that it takes one tree to reach maturity.

bambooplant.jpgIf your concerned about Bamboo's strength and durability compared to hardwood, don't be. Bamboo is harder than Red oak, Ash, Maple or Beech - one of the strongest building materials, with a tensile strength that rivals steel and weight-to-strength ratio surpassing that of graphite. It withstands up to 52,000 pounds of pressure PSI. Because it regenerates through it's root system, it can be harvested and is capable of regeneration without the need to replant. There is virtually no impact to the environment with bamboo and with a 3-5 year return on investment for a new bamboo plantation, it makes good economic sense as well.
