If you had only one router, what would it be and why? -Andy
My favorite router(s)?
I have collected several routers of the years and have
settled on the following:
OK, I admit it. I probably need to admit myself to Routers
Anonymous. After all, the router is one of the most flexible and fun tools
you can have in your shop. I use my Porter Cable 7518
for larger bits and
then I use my 2 1/4HP variable speed routers (various manufacturers) for my
small to medium sized bits. I discovered a long time ago that the variable
speed feature is nice to have. I have my Porter Cable 895PK
router
mounted to my router table and I use the included height adjuster to raise and
lower the bit. By the way, I have my Porter Cable 895PK mounted in a
Bench Dog Router Table (40-031). As far as noise Level is concerned, I
really like my Makita RF1101. I find it the quietest in the bunch with my
Bosch and Porter Cable running a strong second.
OK, what's my favorite? Currently, I would have
to say my favorite is my Bosch PR20. It is a very small variable speed router
(about the size of a laminate router/trimmer) it is workhorse and by the way, and
the noise level isn't bad either.
Several other quality routers are available on the market. If
were to buy one and one only today, it would probably be the Bosch, Makita or Porter
Cable sets due to the flexibility. Tool King carries a ton of different routers, be sure and browse their selection
for some great deals.
Finally, after you choose your router(s), you will discover literally
hundreds or router bits
available for your creative side.
Thanks for the inquiry and Happy Routing!
