Power saws come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We most commonly think of saws for cutting wood, but they can also be used to cut metal, concrete, plastic and other materials. If you're thinking of purchasing a power saw, it's important to make sure you buy the right one, and this buying guide is here to help make you a discerning customer before you head to the store.

Types of Power Saws

Power saws cut wood in one of three ways:

  1. the teeth are arranged along the perimeter of a flat, circular blade
  2. the blade reciprocates up and down rapidly
  3. the teeth are along one edge of a continuous looping band.
