scottmower.gifSave Gas, be eco-friendly and have a good walk while you're at it. Go out and get yourself one of those new and improved push type Reel Lawnmowers. You can get a Scott Classic Push Lawnmower for as little as $100 on Amazon.com and save enough on gas over the summer to throw a party and buy a keg!

A Scott's 2000-20, 20-inch Classic Push Lawnmower lets you choose from 9 different grass heights from 1-3 inches. The Scott's brand also comes with 10-inch radial tires, which makes it easier to push across your lawn or if you have little hills in your terrain (most gas-powered lawn mowers have 7-inch tires). The Scott Lawnmower also has 5 heat-treated steel blades and features a 2-year warranty. The only maintenance you need to do on a push cutter is to keep the blades sharpened.

Are you thinking that while you would like to be more eco-friendly and use a green lawn mower, it might be too difficult to push one of those "reel mowers"? Well, actually they are not. Compared to a heavy 80-pound, gas-engine mower that isn't self propelled, a Reel Mower weighs between 25-30 pounds and is designed with larger wheels so that they glide easier across your lawn, provided you are not going over a ton of twigs and you haven't let your grass get to a long length. There's a good guide to Reel Mowers over at ReelMowerGuide.com where you can check out a bunch of different Reel Mowers and get more information on healthy lawn care.

Last spring, Ben published a good article on Electric Lawn Mower Reviews from Wired Magazine which will also save you gas if you don't want to make the plunge to the Push Lawnmower. In any case, both lawnmowers run cleaner and quieter than their gas guzzling counterparts.
