SawStop is displaying their new portable contractor's saw equipped with the same flesh-sensing technology as their famous cabinet saw. Note the oscilloscope on top of the saw-this was a great way to visually demonstrate how the SawStop "sees" the blade and monitors human contact.

The saw should be available by the end of the year and will retail in the ballpark of ~$1500. The stand will be sold separately and the rep I spoke with was unsure of final pricing.

As an added bonus, every hour, a SawStop rep is replicating their hugely popular "hot-dog" demonstration live! This demonstration has been consistently drawing a crowd of onlookers curious to see the technology in action. Let me tell you, after seeing it in person, it's even more amazing how fast the SawStop reacts. The blade just seems to instantly disappear!

We did find out that the replacement brake cartridge cost only $69. In almost all cases, you'll need a new blade as the old one will be firmly embedded in a block of aluminum.

On another note, SawStop prices are increasing August 1st! If you've been contemplating purchasing a SawStop, act now before prices increase!
