Steel City's booth is drawing a lot of attention here at AWFS. They are showing of their new line of granite-topped products including table saws & jointers, although the table saw is generating a lot of buzz.

Why granite? A helpful sign at their booth explained:
  • Greater precision, immune to warping and twisting
  • Resistant to scratches
  • Attractive, naturally occuring organic substance
  • Next to diamonds, granite is the strongest stone in the world
  • Inert, no coating is required and will never rust, stain, or tarnish
  • Tough wear resistant and load bearing capabilities
  • Excellent vibration absorbion
All that aside, the granite just looks flat-out cool!

The table saw features a 40mm thick granite top and includes two riving knives, a guard, and two inserts. A 1 3/4hp model will be available in January for...get this, $1349 (a non-granite model will be available for $50 less, but for that price, get the granite!)

Check out how thick the top is on this thing:

This is a very cool and unique product. It's no wonder that Steel City's booth was so busy!

Steel City Tool Works Hybrid T
written by Guest User , July 24, 2007
Wow! Thinking outside the box, Yes! Was really impressed with the new Steel City Tool Works Hybrid Table Saw. The new Granite top, yes granite, was very flat and smooth. This table top has only one extension wing (left) as the right wing was incorporated into the main table top. Found that the miter gage slides effortlessly across this table top and after 4 days @ AWFS with hundreds of people moving the miter gage, didn't notice any detectable scratching on the tabletop. The new industrial Fence also slides effortlessly across the table top and for those of you who get frustrated with the parallel adjustment, Steel City has added access windows to the rail to allow fine adjustment with the fence still on the saw. The new trunnion mechanism lift is on fully adjustable dovetail ways which also allowed the addition of 2 riving knives (1 standard Kerf and 1 thin kerf. The new cabinet also has 2 access panels, instead of 1 to allow for ease of servicing/cleaning. The new (larger) lift and bevel adjustment handles allow for ease of adjustment(s). The overall package is impressive and will be available later this year in both 30" and 50" fence platforms. Questions? I can be reached @ 1-800-696-8665, X202. Happy Woodworking!! Rick L.
