Ask Rick: DeWalt DCX4230 or Makita LXT218?
Written by Rick Peil

What is the best combo? DeWalt DCX4230 or Makita LXT218 Dewalt hammer drill is better than makita? ~Luciano

Luciano,

Thanks for the inquiry.

Great choice on either kit (Makita LXT 218 or DeWalt DCX4230).

It’s kind of one of those personal preference things. I personally own tools from both of these manufacturers and both have performed quite well. Both of these kits will provide you great service. What do I currently own? I own the Makita kit. I personally enjoy the LEDs and the belt clip on the Makita Hammer drill/Driver. I do a lot of cabinet installs and the LED has been a great benefit to me. Finally, I find the feel and the ergonomics of the Makita Drill better for the size of my hands. Check them out. We currently stock both kits and I’m sure you will find both a great value.

Thanks again for the inquiry and please let us know if we can help.

Porter Cable PSH2 Gravity Feed Detail Spray Gun
Written by Jude Herr
Friday, 02 January 2009

portercable_psh2.jpgThe Porter-Cable PSH2 is a Gravity Feed Detail Spray Gun that has a maximum operating pressure of 60 lbs per Square inch (PSI). According to Pete from Toolking (who was a professional painter for 25 years), the Porter-Cable PSH2 is the best Spray gun on the market for many reasons.

First, the PSH2 gravity feed spray gun has a 90% transfer rate which makes this sprayer one of most environmentally compliant paint sprayers on the market. The PSH2 is a HVLP sprayer gun that works with high volume and low pressure which gives the sprayer it's 90% transfer rate. Most of the older guns only have about a 45% transfer rate which means that the rest of the paint goes out into the atmosphere.

Five Tools for the New Year
Written by Jude Herr
Thursday, 01 January 2009

It's a new year and a good time for new tools. But then again, when isn't it a good time for new tools? Here's Five New Tools that you should checkout for the New Year:

jetmiter_2_a.jpg1. JET B3NCH 707110 10" Slide Compound miter saw and 707120 12" Slide Compound Miter Saw . New from JET Tools, these dual bevel sliding compound miter saws are accurate enough for home projects and portable enough to take on the jobsite. Why is a sliding compound Miter saw better? Because instead of cutting all the way through your stock, the sliding mechanism allows you to cut down to a certain depth and then cut across at this depth; this is very useful for cutting grooves, or for cutting tenon joints without having to pull out your table saw. Both the 10 inch and the 12 inch JET B2NCH miter saws have dual bevel capacites of 0, 33.9 and 45 degrees left and right, a quick cam miter lock, JET's trademark XACTA laser technology that gives you a guide line for precise cutting, and a 15 amp 4500rpm motor.

Eco Convection Wall Mounted Heater

E-Build.com has some great eco-friendly products and tips on their site. Here's one of them:

High Efficiency Electric Panel Heater

ECO-heaters offer out-of-the-way wall mounting and is an economic way of providing efficient room heating at a low cost. Using convection technology, heat is mainly generated behind the heater in the space between the panel and the wall, which leads to an efficient up-draft of heat circulated into the room. This principle of convection means that about 90% of the heat comes from the back of the panel, while only 10% is radiated from the front of the panel. This form of "background" heating is not only very economic, but also safe and efficient.

LevelBest2 Square & Plumb-In-One
Written by Jude Herr
Monday, 29 December 2008

levelbest_s.jpgHere is a handy and inexpensive tool that will help you with stair construction (those pesky deck steps), window, door and picture hanging, shelving and other projects where you would ideally like to have a Level and a plumb. The Level Best² is a four-in-one multi-purpose tool with the ability to accurately measure level and plumb at the same time. Yup, it's a level - squared and I just used it to straighten out all the pictures and artwork hanging on my walls. For $19.95, you can too.

Made from highly durable polystyrene, this tool has two opposing level bubbles and a perfect 90° angle. It also has a ruler and pencil slot for easy measurements. For thousands of years, you have needed to use multiple tools to achieve the kind of results this tool will provide, states SLK Development Group. And - I have to agree. The LevelBest2 is such a simple design, I know my dad is thinking "Why didn't I come up with that".
