Drilling and anchoring in concrete is no fun in the best of circumstances. But when you have a whole slew of holes to drill for any project, big or small, just the thought of drilling the hole, then changing to a driver bit in order to sink the anchor, then changing back to the drill bit, then . . . over and over is tiring by itself. But have no fear, Bosch
has come up with a concrete anchoring system to cut that time in half; and it doesn’t involve a second drill. The Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set is just what you need, whether you’re a professional contractor or a weekend warrior.
The Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set is an unassuming little kit at first glance. But two carbide masonry drill bits—5/32” and 3/16”—to correspond with the two most common sizes of anchor screws; two magnetic hex drivers (the better to not be dropping screws); two Phillips-head driver bits; along with a mandrel and sleeve, let you take on just about any concrete anchoring project with ease. With the Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set, all you do is insert a drill bit into the mandrel and tighten it down with the included hex wrench. The bits have a flat side to the shank so there’s no spinning once the torque kicks in, as can happen with an ordinary masonry bit. Then you insert the proper size hex driver or Phillips-head driver into the TC900 sleeve and you’re set. Once the hole is drilled, simply slide the sleeve over the bit, locking the driver in place, and proceed to drive in either a Phillips flat head or Tapcon® hex head anchor. Pull off the sleeve, exposing the bit, and repeat the process. It’s as close to fun as you’re going to get.
The Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set is the height of convenience for what can be a tedious job. The 9-piece TC900 kit comes in Bosch’s Brute Tough snap case, which is made to withstand even the most demanding worksite conditions. A compact 3” by 7” and only 1½” deep, about the size of a small chunk of 2x4, the Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set is easy to carry in a tool belt or in your back pocket. There is also a handy guide on the package to help you match the screw anchor you’re using to the appropriate bit. I’ve used other driver kits, and although they may be similar, they all function slightly differently. Consequently, it would have been a bit more helpful if the Bosch TC900 kit had a little more detail in the instructions and perhaps an illustration or two.
I’ve always found Bosch
to be an innovator in professional-strength tool design, constantly on the lookout for an easier and more efficient way to do just about any job. The Bosch TC900 Concrete Screw Drill Bit Set is no exception: a small tool to make short work of a big job.
