Palm Nailers are the type of specialty tool that you will probably use only seldomly-but you'll sure be glad you have when the day comes that you do need one. Since they aren't widely used, not a lot of manufacturers even produce them.

Palm nailers are a simple tool. Simply hold the tool in your palm (hence the name), insert a nail (one at a time) into the tip, and press against the surface you want to drive the nail into. The pneumatic mechanism will automatically trigger and quickly drives the nail into the surface. They are great for situations where there isn't enough space to use a normal nail gun or hammer.

Todays Tool of the Day, the DeWalt D51180 is a great example of a palm nailer. It's light (only 2 lbs!), so it's easy to hold and manipulate. It handles bulk nails from size 6d to 16d and the tip is magnetized, so you can load a nail into it without having to worry about it falling out before you can drive it. 

It also includes a leather glove (shown in the picture to the right) that makes the tool easier to grip and reduces the chance of developing blisters during extended periods of use.
