Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save
lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa.
Every year 350-500 million people are infected with malaria, and over
one million of those infected die from the disease. Long lasting
insecticide-treated bed nets (LLINs) can lower malaria transmission by
up to 90 percent. A donation of $10 to Nothing But Nets covers the cost
of purchasing a bed net, distributing it and educating communities on
its use. Since it's inception, Nothing But Nets has collectively donated over two million mosquito nets.
So far, in cooperation with Major League Soccer (MLS) Makita has given $100,000 to the "Nothing But Nets" organization, committing to save 10,000 lives through the Makita Team Up
for Nets challenge. Every MLS team is also collecting cash donations and Makita has promised an additional $5000 to Nothing But Nets on behalf of the team that collects the most.
Additionally, Makita will donate one additional mosquito net for each Makita tool purchased by June 30th, 2008. All you have to do is register your new Makita tool online , and you'll help save the life of someone you will probably never meet. I'd call that building good karma, and it's a great reason to consider purchasing a Makita tool .
