milwak_hamdrill2611sm.jpgThey've been working very hard up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Engineering, field testing, gathering data and reengineering their tools to create the best of the best. The new fall lineup from Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation includes a M18 Cordless Lithium-Ion High Performance hammer drill which is perfect for a wide range of applications including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, MRO and remodeling work.

As the cornerstone of the new M18 cordless family, the new 2611 Hammer drill delivers revolutionary power, run-time and ergonomics. This is accomplished with a new Milwaukee 4-Pole Frameless Motor which generates a best-in-class 650 in/lbs. of torque. All this is for you, the person pushing the power tool, to help you work more efficiently and effectively on the job.

The M18 Cordless Hammer Drill 2611 comes with a newly designed 18V XC High Capacity Lithium-Ion battery, which delivers up to 65 percent more holes per charge. At only 9 ¼” long and 5.3 lbs, it is the most compact high performance hammer drill available. This small size helps to minimize your fatigue and maximize your performance.

The 2611 incorporates an easy to use ½” single-sleeve ratcheting metal chuck with carbide jaws for maximum grip. Other features include a Battery Fuel Gauge which displays remaining run-time, and a built-in LED Light to illuminate your work surface.

Backed by Milwaukee’s 5-year 2,000-charge warranty, the 2611 comes equipped with two 18V XC High Capacity LITHIUM-ION batteries, 1-hour charger and carrying case.

The Milwaukee 2611 M18 Hammer Drill will be available at Toolking.com in October.

I assume this will work with my V18 product....looks like the same interface. I certainly hope so!

They are no longer in Wisconsin, unless China just bought the state.

Give me a break! This is Milwaukee's third attempt at a full size Lithium. The V28 bombed, the V18 bombed, so they went out and pretty much copied the features of the Makita. And no this will not work with your V18.

Wow, I have seen a 4-pole frameless motor before. It is in my Makita, I remember the Rep telling me that and reading it on the box. Good Job Milwaukee, only a few years late to the chase.

I think this drill will be better than the makita i own. I think makita need to revert to two gears or fix the problem they have with 3rd.
Looking forward to the milwaukee 2611.

What johnny says. There is already a 2 speed Makita Hammer drill out. It is in most of the Combo Kits and available by itself. I have not had a problem with my 3 speed drill but I have talked to 2 guys that have, and they said that their problems came from (these are my impressions and conclusions) using too large a bit in too big of gear. I do not run my cordless drill any faster that my AC drill will run in a comparable situation. Just because I can put a 1" spade bit in my cordless and it can spin that bit at 1500 rpm does not mean that I should then use the drill that way. Would you over stress your pickup like this? I don't think so.
Back to the topic- Makita is the only tool company to have hit a home run with their lithium tools. No dropped tools, no discontinued tools OR US goverment required lithium tool recalls.
4 pole motor, 45 minute charger, new lithium tools coming out every month and a 3 YEAR head start on doing things right. What is not to like?
Well, maybe you don't like the thought of having to convert to something better when you need to buy 2 more heavy, short running ni-cad batteries for a couple of tools twice a year. Figuring the cost of DeWalt batteries over two years of use, you will be about even (in dollars) for what Makita tools cost. That is what I found.
