Not About Tools, But Cool None-the-lessgibson_robot_guitar.jpg

My favorite e-tail site (other than Tool King of course) is Musician's Friend, a very popular supplier of musical instruments and related equipment.  I was browsing around their site the other day and noticed quite possibly the coolest guitar I've ever seen.

It's called the Gibson Robot.  This is what's a 21st century guitar looks like!

Not only does it's silver and blue finish look wicked cool, but it also has one high-tech feature that makes this guitar a one-of-a-kind. It actually tunes itself.

See that little knob with the red and blue LEDs? That's the controller for an integrated self-tuning system built into the guitar.  You simply turn it to the desired tuning (there are 6 presets and you can create your own), strum a few times, and the guitar will automatically tune itself.

Each of the tuning pegs has a little servo motor integrated inside of it. They are connected to a computer in the body of the guitar which controls the entire self-tuning mechanism. The entire system is powered by a rechargeable battery pack accessible in the back of the guitar.

As is the case with most Gibson guitars, it's not cheap. MSRP is $2499, but Musician's Friend is advertising it for $2199.  Still though, that's not much more than a regular high-end Gibson Les Paul model  and you get quite possibly the coolest new guitar technology since the wah-wah pedal.

If you head over to Musician's Friend, they even have a video demonstration of the guitar's self-tuning feature so you can see it for your own eyes. It really is pretty cool.

Yeah really cool. Until you order two from the website and everything seems to look good then, the next day, you get an email telling you that you need to change your banking information to reflect the phone number on your bank account (really? come on.), you do that and contact the "Verification Dept." and are told everything is cool. You then receive an order confirmation for only one of the guitars so you contact them again and they tell you they have cancelled both your orders because they sold too many.

Long story short, my order was cancelled from MF. I wrote an email to Gibson and 2 days later a MF manager contacted me and said 1 was available. Got it yesterday... RG1064... its way nicer in person than in the pictures.
