Ancient Kauri from New Zealand is believed to be the oldest workable wood in the world today. Radio carbon dating shows that the wood has been laying in the peat swamps around the area of Northland, New Zealand for up to 50,000 years.
Living Kauri trees cannot be cut down so the Kauri wood that is used today has been dug up from swamplands in Northland, New Zealand that contain ancient Kauri forests.
