Tool of the Day Badge The Toologics.com Tool of the Day is a new part of Toologics where we will showcase a different tool or accessory every weekday. The Tool of the Day could be anything-a new tool, a tool that's been on the market for a few years, or even a standby like a screwdriver!

The first entry in the new Tool of the Day section is......the Dremel Stylus! Click "read more" to find out about the first Toologics Tool of the Day!

The Dremel Stylus is the newest (and we might add, best) addition to the long-established Dremel rotary tool line.

Dremels are some of the most useful utility tools to own. Their small size, high speed, and large selection of bits makes them suitable for a wide range of purposes; from craft work to auto repair, Dremels can be used almost anywhere a precise cut/grind/cleaning/sanding/polishing is needed.

Dremel has produced a few cordless variations of it's flagship tool over the years, which have often been plagued by inadequate battery life. Due to the nature of the Dremel, it was difficult to to develop a battery system that could provide sufficient power while still keeping the tool small and light.

Many Dremel users gave up on the cordless systems because they just weren't as powerful as their corded counterparts. It's not that they were a bad idea, the technology just wasn't there yet.

Dremel StylusHowever, because of the recent advances in lithium ion battery technology, Dremel was able to create a new cordless tool that's far superior to it's older relatives. Plus, they re-envisioned the physical design of the tool itself. The end result is a powerful cordless rotary tool that's easier than ever to use accurately.

The Dremel Stylus is a radical departure from the original style tool. As you can see, the Stylus was designed with a unique "pistol grip" that makes it a piece of cake to precisely hold and use the tool. Older Dremels with the motor mounted "inline" suffered from a mild "gyroscope" effect as the motor ran, which sometimes made it difficult to use. The design of the new Stylus largely eliminates that issue.

The Stylus is powered by an internal 7.2v lithium ion battery. To charge it, it just needs to be placed on it's base station (pictured). Since it's powered by "memoryless" lithium ion batteries, it can be kept on it's base station whenever not in use, ensuring a full charge the next time you need it. There is no need to fully discharge it to maintain battery life. If you prefer not to keep it plugged in constantly, the tool will keep a charge for up to two years.

The variable speed control, located on the back of the unit, adjusts the rotational speed from 5,000 to 25,000 RPM.

Overall, the Dremel Stylus is a great tool to have around the house. It has a multitude of uses and is compatible with all of the existing Dremel bits. If you don't yet have a Dremel, this is certainly the one to buy!

The Dremel Stylus is available from Tool King and many other fine tool retailers.
