Steel City Portable Planer 40200H
Written by Jude Herr
Tuesday, 25 November 2008

steelcity40200.jpgA patent pending addition to the Steel City line is the 13 inch Portable planer 40200H.

What's the difference between this on and the others?
Well, the Steel City Planer has a spiral insert cutterhead. I spoke to Jim over at Steel City and he explained to me that the spiral insert cutterhead is comprised of a series of stacked sections that make up the longer cylindrical head, instead of just one large cutter piece. He and the folks at Steel City claims that this spiral cutterhead is just as strong as other cutterheads and gives as smooth of a finish but is more economical to manufacture because it is not just one large piece. Thus, the savings gets passed on to you, their consumer in the form of a high quality yet inexpensive, portable planer.

The PorterCable 390K Orbital Sander

portercable390.jpgWhat's the difference between the PorterCable 390 Low Profile Random Orbit Sander and their previous models?
Big difference and a big upgrade. As you can see from the photo, the PorterCable 390 has a lower profile design than the previous model. This reduces the sander height by 30% and as a result, you get better handling and control, and less vibration because you are closer to the material. Less vibration, more comfort, less hand and arm fatigue at the end of the day. And I'm all about having a better evening cause I'm less tired from work.
