Toolking has a great special on the Bostitch CPACK3R 3-nailer and compressor combo (see yesterdays post). You can use an air compressor to power pneumatic tools but what else can you use it for? Well, here's 10 other tasks for your air compressor.
1. Blow up an air mattress or other "toy" (see left: CarPool Kenny)
2. Clean out and winterize your sprinkler system. See "How to Winterize an Irrigation System".
3. Hook up a blower to it and use it as a high powered dusting machine and/or leaf blower.
4. Air up your vehicle tires.
5. Inflate your water toys and game balls.
6. Painting. Blowing paint around to make cool designs.
7. Power Animatronics. Think of the robots at Chucky Cheese. Those dudes are powered by air compressors.
8. Blow up a bounce house for you and your kids.
9. Power a car. From www.the aircar.com"Compressed air is a new viable form of power that allows the accumulation and transport of energy."
10. Potato gun: take a length of PVC pipe, place potato inside one end, nozzle of compressor on the other end. Turn on compressor, aim and fire. Listen to the satisfying "ploompb" sound as the potato makes contact. Hide or run like hell.
See detailed video below. Happy Blowing!!

Did you know that the use of cordless power tools on the job site can actually save you money? According to a recent report from the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc., the oldest and largest provider of workers compensation and employee injury data and statistics in the nation, "Without a doubt, cordless tools do help reduce trips and falls, entanglements, and electrocution injuries," noted Mark W. Kinsey, Broker/CRA/Consultant for PKG Insurance Associates, Inc., in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, head of NARI's Insurance Group. "Additionally, we believe it would make sense for the insurance industry to take this under consideration when writing insurance policies."

As far as Combo Kits go, the Makita LXT407 is a nice, well-rounded kit that also happens to be powered by an Energy Star qualified battery charger for less environmental impact. Nice, huh? So as you are working you can think "I'm helping to save the environment right now". The LXT407 comes with an impact driver, a 1/2" hammer driver-drill, a Reciprocating saw, two lithium ion batteries with charger, and a Xenon flashlight all packaged up in a handy, heavy duty, reusable carrying case.
Specifically, the LXT Lithium-Ion battery and optimum charging system produces 280% total lifetime work with 2x more cycles. The 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill BHP452 has a new 4-pole motor for 450 in. lbs. of torque with only 3.9 lbs of weight. The Reciprocating saw, model BJR182 has a rubber grip to lessen the vibration when you're working with it and also has tool-less blade changes and shoe adjustments. The Impact Driver, model BTD140 weighs in at 3.3lbs. This lightweight compact driver has a plastic casing around the chuck, which protects the cabinet wood and such when you are working inside cabinets and small areas that you don't want scratched. The BTD140 also features an onboard LED light that turns on automatically when you press the power trigger.
Included with the LXT407 is an Optimum Charger, model DC18SC, that charges the Lithium Ion batteries in 30-45 minutes and has a handy timer that beeps when your battery is ready. The combo kit comes with 2 LXT 18v Li-Ion batteries. LXT Lithium Ion batteries provide longer run time, 5x lower self-discharge and 16 firm holding contact terminals for constant high power. The nice thing about LXT Lithium-Ion battery technology is the fact that even after your impact driver has sat in your garage for a month or longer, it is ready to use. The lithium ion battery has 5 times lower self-discharge than a regular NiCad and doesn't carry the dreaded "Memory effect".
The Makita LXT407 also comes with a Xenon flashlight (model BML185) which can be adjusted from 90-180 degrees and runs for 4.3 hours. With a very cool style carrying case, you are always ready to pack up your power tools and go.
We checked out this interesting product that was posted via the Toologics comments board - Load Latch™ from Load Latch Company, LLC. They state that it will keep your load off the road. Materials from the back of your truck that is. Have any of your readers tried this product? We're going to try and get a demo and check it out.
What they say: "Don't be the guy in the middle of the intersection rushing to pick up your damaged materials. Unsecured loads are not only embarrassing, but dangerous and illegal as well. Stop relying on knots and ties that are unsafe and confusing. The Load Latch™ from Load Latch Company, LLC is all you need. All you have to do is drop the Load Latch™ in place, load your materials, and drive off!"
History of Load Latch Company, LLC - a family owned company
Geoff Lambousis and Jenny Mooney founded Load Latch Company, LLC in January of 2006. The idea of the Load Latch® came to Geoff after he nearly lost a load of supplies and materials while driving up a steep incline on his way to work. Upon his invention of Load Latch®, Geoff was inspired to find a more universal configuration of the device. Thus, the Gap Strap® was developed. The Y-Strap® came shortly after, enabling the Load Latch Company to have a product available for any truck on the road.
Load Latch Company, LLC is a manufacturer and distributor of a variety of innovative products that create a new market segment in the automotive accessories industry. The initial three products provide a solution to the everyday problem of safely securing building materials in pick-up trucks in a way that is quick and easy.
Stay tuned for more details when we get our Load Latch® and try it out...
