So Sturdy Even a Bear Can Balance on the Little Giant!
Written by Jude Herr
Friday, 22 February 2008

Watch the video! See the bear balance on the Little Giant! Sounds weird huh? it's really not. It's really an ad for Little Giant ladders, which are quite an amazing product. My friends Brian and Tracy had one when they were remodeling their main floor (with 20 foot vaulted ceilings). I am ashamed to admit that yes, I am afraid of heights. And yet, this ladder was so sturdy, I was at the top of the Little Giant sanding the beam that ran across at the utmost vault of their ceiling. These ladders are very versatile, as the video shows.

staircaseladder.jpgextensionladder.jpgYou basically get 24 ladders in one when you purchase a Little Giant, multiple staircase ladders, extension ladders, 90 degree ladders or use it for scaffolding. With a patented triple locking hinge for safety and tip n' glide wheels for portability, the Little Giant Ladders are easy enough for your grandma to use (well, it depends if your grandma is like my grandma).

For example, the Little Giant Ultra Step 11460 is designed to be one of the safest ladders. Since it's adjustable, the Little Giant can be used safely on stairs, ramps, curbs, docks or other uneven surfaces. The Little Giant Ultra Step is made of heavy-wall, 6005-T5 aluminum the very same material used in aerospace construction. So it's ultra-strong while remaining light and portable. The Little Giant Ultra Step is government-rated to hold up to 300 pounds. aframe_ladder.jpg

Another good choice is the Little Giant Fiberglass Type 1A, model 10713LG features nonconductive fiberglass side rails, so it's perfect for electrical contractors. Because it is constructed of nonconductive fiberglass resin, the Little Giant Fiberglass Type 1A is perfect for working safely around electricity. The Little Giant Fiberglass Type 1A is made of a patented fiberglass resin. So it's both stronger and lighter than traditional fiberglass ladders. The Little Giant Fiberglass Type 1A is stress rated for industrial use, with a 300 pound government rating.

What's the difference between a Type 1...a Type 1A...a Type 1AA? Here's a quick explanation: Essentially, the 'Type' designation of each ladder is simply a rating of how much weight a single rung on the ladder can bear. There is no other difference between the ladders. The American National Standards Institute defines the load rating of each ladder and prints the information on a safety label located on the leg of every ladder. Load ratings for Little Giant ladders include the Type 1, with a capacity of 250 pounds, the Type 1A, with a capacity of 300 pounds and the Type 1AA, which supports up to 375 pounds.

Oh hey, this is the best news of all, the Little Giant Ladders are made in the good ole' USA!!

Vaughan Framing Hammers Since 1869
Written by Jude Herr

Hot off the press from Illinois:
Vaughan Reinvents the Framing hammer, the popular American icon, by introducing the new S2 framing hammer.

vaughan-s2-hammer.jpgHebron, IL. --Vaughan & Bushnell, the premier hand tool producer since 1869, has reinvented the popular American icon by introducing the new S2 framing hammer. The S2 is a split-head; hammer, meaning the head is split in two, which interrupts and dissipates shock generated during use thereby greatly reducing stress to the users hand, wrist and arm. The S2, already receiving International recognition by winning numerous design awards, presents a revolutionary look and feel to the ordinary framing hammer.

The S2 hammer offers many innovative features never seen before such as overstrike plate handle protection, modular head design with independent face, claw and handle and anti-vibration pads for shock absorption. Additional popular features are precision balance for a zero gravity center line and a HeadstartTM Magnetic Nail Holder for both standard and duplex nails. All of these features were designed to prevent less wear and tear on the user while making the job easier and faster. The S2, at 18 oz., has the feel of titanium with the strength of steel. The S2 retails for around U.S. $50.00 and will be available at hardware stores, home centers and building supply stores in the U.S. and Canada. For additional information on the S2 or other Vaughan products visit www.vaughanmfg.com.

Four generations of family running Vaughan & Bushnell sounds like quality passed down through the generations. But how do these compare to the high end Stiletto Hammers? Mens Health says the Stiletto's are better? Anyone else try them?

Stilletto TiBone TBII Named “Experts Pick” in Men's Health
Written by Ben Jackson
Monday, 18 February 2008

The 100% titanium and 100% awesome Stiletto TiBone TBII hammer has just been bestowed as the “expert's pick” in the March 2008 issue of Men's Health Magazine.

Beating out the Estwing WF2I, VaughanS2 and Redback Maxistrike, the 15 oz Stiletto TiBone TBII was praised for being “slick”, “light” and “tricked out”. Although the $220 hammer was the most expensive hammer in the group (by far), the expert judging the various Hammers enthusiastically pointed out the TBII's “perfect center of gravity and well-designed grip” and mentioned that if he was “driving nails all day long, this is the hammer I'd want”.

We've been big fans of the Stiletto TiBone TBII since we first laid eyes on it several months ago and are glad to see it start receiving the recognition it deserves. According to Stiletto, the titanium construction delivers up to 50% more striking power into the target while significantly reducing nerve-damaging vibration. Thanks to an integrated magnet that holds the nail, smashing your fingers with a hammer will become a thing of the past. The clever sidepull nail puller makes it a piece of cake to pull nails with one 180° motion.

Functionality aside, the TBII is a hammer made from solid titanium and that's just freakin' cool.

The suggested retail price on a Stiletto TiBone TBII Hammer is about $283, but you can find them at places like ToolKing.com for “just” $219.99. At that price, it's clearly not intended for everyone, but rather for those individuals who use hammers and want to have the absolute best (and coolest!) tools money can buy.

Stiletto makes quite a variety of hammers and the TiBone TBII is the flagship product in the line.  Slightly less expensive Stiletto hammers are also available with hickory wood handles or poly-fiberglass handles in various weights and configurations. Tool King carries the full line of Stiletto, so be sure and take a monent browse the entire line of Stiletto Hammers

Fix Your Bit With the Drill Doctor DD705X
Written by Jude Herr
Monday, 18 February 2008

drilldoctor.jpgGot a bunch of dull bits in your toolbox that you're shortening the life of your drill with? Drilling low quality holes with? Right. You should check out the Drill Doctor DD750X Drill Bit Sharpener. The manufacturer states that the Drill Doctor really works like an industrial strength sharpener. Why? Because the Drill Doctor uses a diamond sharpening wheel that doesn't wear down like a lower quality sharpening wheel would.

The Drill Doctor works in two easy steps,
1. Align your bit by setting the bit to the stop and close the tab.
2. Sharpen by turning the chuck an even number of half turns. It sounds easy to use and supposedly can even sharpen broken bits.

Has anyone tried it? Well then leave your comments below for the rest of us.
