Buying a Wet or Dry Tile Saw

A tile saw is a power tool used to cut ceramic and other tiles with accuracy and a smoothly cut edge. Since the material of a tile is characterized by its brittle nature, conventional saws cannot be used to cut these items as the tile may shatter, the cut may be jagged, or the tool may get overheated. The tile saw enables the user to cut tiles into a specific shape and size in order to fit them compactly into the designated spaces, either on the floor or the wall of a room. Mostly, this tool is used to trim and shape tiles that are to be placed near the periphery of the room, at a corner, or around any protrusion from the wall, such as a switch box, or a light socket. The tile saw can cut a variety of materials including porcelain, ceramic, marble, and even granite.  While commonly used by carpenters, masons, plumbers and other building contractors, this tool can also be used by non-professionals, and is a handy implement to feature in the tool kit in any household.

Buying a Stationary Table Saw

A stationary table saw, also known as a saw bench, is a powered cutting device consisting of a circular serrated blade that rises out of a slit in the surface of a table. The material to be cut is normally slid towards the rotating blade and then through it, resulting in smooth and efficient cutting. Stationary table saws are generally larger and heavier than the benchtop models and are therefore more suitable for intensive cutting tasks. This saw can cut through most dense materials such as hardwood, compressed lumber, reinforced plastic, and even metal. This tool is capable of straight perpendicular cuts of varying depths as well as angled cuts. Other than slicing wooden sheets down to the required dimensions, the tool can also be used for plunge cutting grooves and slots. Miter and bevel cuts, which are angular cuts made in two pieces of wood that need to be joined at an angle, can be easily executed using this tool. The saw is also used for crosscutting and molding applications. While generally being used by professional workmen, such as carpenters, masons, and plumbers, these tools can be used at home by experienced ‘workshop enthusiasts’ too.

Buying a Benchtop Table Saw

A benchtop table saw is a motorized circular saw with a sturdy compact body and is designed to be portable. This tool is used for cutting wooden sheets to a particular size, creating grooves and slots, making crosscuts, as well as performing molding tasks. Additionally, the saw can also make miter and bevel cuts, which imply cutting two wooden pieces at around 45 degrees such that they can be joined to form an approximate right angle. This saw is strong enough to easily cut through pressurized lumber and hardwood. The tool can slice through a varied array of materials other than wood, such as reinforced plastic, fiberglass, and even metal. They are used by carpenters, building contractors, masons and other skilled workers. The light weight of the saw and the user-friendly controls make this tool usable by non-professional home users too.

Buying a Reciprocating Saw

A reciprocating saw is a power saw that performs the sawing action by the to and fro motion of the blade. Some examples of reciprocating saws include rotary saws, saber saws, scroll saws, and jig saws. These saws can be used for cutting, sawing, and wood molding. Highly accurate cuts can be made in varied materials, such as plaster, wood, drywall, metal, PVC, sheet-rock, and even pipes. This tool is popular with skilled workers like carpenters, masons, and plumbers. These tools form handy implements to be kept in the tool kit of any household too. Some other applications of reciprocating saws include cutting smaller radius curves, mortising, and landscaping timber.

Buying a Radial Arm Saw

A radial arm saw is a heavy-duty cutting machine that is used to cut through wood, concrete, plastics, and metals. It is primarily made up of a circular tooth edged blade enclosed within a metal body and powered by a motor. These tools are extensively used by skilled laborers such as builders, carpenters, and masons. They are also popular amongst ‘garage workshop’ aficionados. Most radial arm saws come equipped with a cutting table and a cutting guide with a fence. This increases the overall stability and effectiveness of the cutting process. The tool is designed with safety features, to keep the operator safe from any damage that could be caused by a hi-speed cutting device. A specialized clamping device is built-into the tool to hold the work-piece in place whilst it is being cut.
