New Skil Flooring Saw 3600

skil3600_floorsawSkil just introduced a new 7 amp Flooring Saw 3600 that rips, miters and crosscuts all on the floor, as close as you can set it up to where you are working. We haven't gotten to check out this flooring saw ourselves but from what we can tell, the Skil 3600 comes built on it's own flat base that sits right on the floor where you are working. It looks like the Skil 3600 flooring saw is quite easy to adjust from miter to crosscut to rip. The photo to the left shows you the saw on the base and how easy it is to carry.

Skil's Flooring Saw 3600 features dual sliding rails and cuts solid, engineered and laminate flooring. It has a lightweight (25 pound) design, making it portable and efficient. The 3600 flooring saw features miter detents at 0, 22.5 and 45 degrees and also cuts crosscuts and rips (on flooring pieces). The Skil 3600 has a Die-cast aluminum miter and rip fence, as well as an innovative locking system and a built-in cord wrap. Safety features of the Skil 3600 include a soft grip handle with an ambidextrous lock out switch and an innovative locking system.

Bosch's New Finecut Power Handsaw

Bosch_finecut_handsawLooking back at my last three posts, one would seem to think that I tend to favor Bosch tools over some of the other name brands. While that is not true, I do appreciate the quality - and variety - and price of Bosch power tools. Nuff said, let me tell you about my newest find, the new Finecut Power Handsaw 1640VS from Bosch.

The Finecut Power Handsaw is not a typical do-it-yourselfer type of power tool. The 1640VS is a corded, 3.5 amp power handsaw that runs from 2,000 - 2,800 rpm and is geared towards the professional finish carpenter, remodeler and plumber. Ideal for flush cutting doorjambs, window jams, shims, PVC drainpipe, flooring and more, the 1640VS has a variable speed dial that lets you adjust the power to the workpiece and task.

Bosch's New Impact Tough Accessories

Bosch_impactor26618To use with Bosch's powerful new toys like the 26618 Multi-Function Impactor, the ultra-compact PS40 Impactor and the upcoming PS41 12V Max Impactor, Bosch is introducing a line of Impact Tough accessories. First in stores will be some bits, nuts and sockets. Not just any bits, nuts and sockets though, these are professional grade "Impact Tough" accessories specifically designed for use by electricians, HVAC contractors, remodelers and deck builders.

Bosch states that their Impact Tough Screwdriving Bits are built to last in demanding impact driving applications. If you're like me and you have ever made the mistake of buying cheap bits, you will certainly appreciate the quality of Bosch's bits. The bits’ “torsion zone” feature absorbs torque peaks and reduces stress at the tip. The forged tip reduces breakage, which creates a clean and precise impact on the surface. And a hardened core increases the strength of the bit, reducing the chance of fracture in high-torque applications. These will be available in a phillips, square and torx head.

Three Favorite Garage Tools

Bosch_ps50

Here's a list of my three favorite garage tools. These are the tools that I happen to use the most - and are the easiest, most helpful tools I have.

1. Multi-Tool: Cordless Bosch PS50 is a 12 volt, lithium-ion powered, multi-tool that has 240-degree adjustable tool holder and variable speed dial (5,000-20,000 rpm). The PS50 is super-lightweight at 2.2 pounds (including battery) and has a long body which makes it one of the more ergonomic multi-purpose oscillating tools available. The Bosch PS50 is quite amenable to other multi-tool accessories and even includes the attachment adapter in the kit. I was able to effortlessly cut through a 1-inch hollow metal rod with the Fein E-cut metal/wood blade attached to the PS50.

I like the Craftsman Multi-tool as well which features a 12 volt lithium-ion powered battery and is half the price of the Bosch PS50. Priced at $99, the Craftsman 17438 has a no load speed of 15,000 oscillations per minute, a 2.8 degree oscillation angle, comes with sanding/scraping and cutting accessories and a 30-minute charger. The only downside of the Craftsman is that after you've been using it for a bit, the battery begins to vibrate out the back of the tool, thus stopping the tool while you are working. For $99, it's a great multi-tool but if you have the extra cash and are going to be using your multi-tool professionally, I recommend the Bosch PS50 over the Craftsman.

Makita's BO5041k Random Orbit Sander

Makita_BO5041There's a good amount of sanders on the market and to add to the pack, Makita is introducing a new 5 inch Random Orbit Sander BO5041K. What makes this one different from the rest are two new features, a more powerful 3.0 amp motor and an adjustable front handle. The Makita-built 3.0 amp motor has oversized sealed ball bearing construction to increase the life of the sander.

The other feature that makes Makita's BO5041k different from the rest is that you can adjust the front handle. So if you are sanding in corners and confined areas, you can adjust the handle to make it easier to get the sander where you need to sand.
