I recently got to check out the new Gator® Ultra Power Premium Series sandpaper with Black Zirconium when I was refinishing my dining table. Gator states that their Ultra Power sandpaper sands three times faster and last three times longer than regular sandpaper.Well, you can check out the video below as proof of that.
Most of the Gator sandpaper products that I've tested out are used for hand sanding and I have found them to be quick, effective and uber-comfortable to use. The Ultra Power Premium Series sandpaper however is designed for use on power sanders on a variety of materials, including wood, metal, fiberglass and painted surfaces. Like for instance if you decided to power sand your vehicle or in my case, my dining table.
“The Gator Black Zirconium grit is made with zirconium oxide one of the hardest manmade materials available,” said Gary Carter, Marketing Director for Ali Industries. “People know it as cubic zirconium, the next best thing to diamonds. Our Black Zirconium has that diamond-like quality, it is much sharper and much harder than the standard aluminum oxide sandpaper grits, so it cuts faster and holds its cutting edge longer.” Think "diamond grit" blades and tile cutting. The black zirconium grit works quickly; I used only 3 pieces on my orbital sander to sand my entire table top - one in each grit from 50 to 80 to 120 grit.
Gator Ultra Power sandpaper features heavy weight paper for the sandpaper discs and sheets and heavy duty cloth for the belts, increasing sandpaper strength and longevity. The glues also are top-of-the-line phenolic resins to ensure sandpaper integrity, and the discs and sheets have a special no-load coating that reduces material loading so you don’t have to change paper as often.
“Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a woodworking professional in a production environment,” added Carter, “you’ll quickly see the difference between Gator Ultra Power and regular sandpaper. Gator Ultra removes material quicker and you don’t have to change sandpaper as often.”
Gator Ultra Power Premium Series sandpaper with Black Zirconium is available at Home Centers and Hardware Stores, and comes in 3” x 18”, 3” x 21”, 2-1/2” x 14” and 6” x 48” belts; PSA or Hook & Loop for 5” orbital sanders; 8”, 9” and 12” discs for stationary belt/disc sanders and in hook & loop for the Mouse Detail Sander™, Mega Mouse Detail Sander™, and the Porter Cable® Profile Detail Sander. It is also available in 1/2, 1/3 and 1 /4 Sheets for hand or power sanding with clamps. www.gatorfinishing.com

I got a chance to check out the Lehr EcoBlower and Leaf Mulcher yesterday. I found the EcoBlower easy to start and use, with a powerful blower and convenient leaf mulcher all nicely powered by a small, clean burning propane fuel tank. Yup, that's the best part about it, running on a small 17 ounce propane canister, the EcoBlower is cordless with no smelly gas tank and no obnoxious cord to drag around.
The length of the attachments for the blower and vacuum make EcoBlower easy to use without having to bend over and strain your back. With a speed of 150mph, the EcoBlower makes it easy to get under the leaves and blow them in the direction that you want. The vacuum/leaf shredder works with a separate attachment and has a bag with a strap to carry the mulched leaves in while you collect them. You can mulch a large, say 10 feet diameter pile of leaves into just a few bags, easily fitting them into a 92 gallon composting bin, large leaf bag or making it convenient to spread them on your garden. The only downside is if you've had some rain or snow and you are trying to vacuum leaves that are a bit wet. Wet leaves just clog up the vacuum so it's best to get them before it rains/snows or wait until the dry to mulch.

Dewalt's 13 inch planer is one of the smoothest and easiest tools I have used. This portable beast will handle anything you give it. No matter if it is oak, wood, or maple, I haven't met a wood that this thing wouldn't chomp. The three knife planer has a 15 amperage 10,000 RPM motor, which is impressive for it's size. Speaking of size the only drawback for me is it is not as a portable as I would like. It is called a portable planer but at over 100lbs it can make for an interesting move. However, this is the only drawback I have had and with most power tools you get what you pay for. This planer is a little more expensive than others but it will not let you down, whether you get it new or reconditioned it is well worth the money. Check out this and all different planers at Toolking.com!

I finally had the chance to use my Dremel 4000 tool rotary tool to help my neighbor Dena strip paint off of metal chairs that she was refurbishing. Impressed with how easy it is to change out the attachments and the variety of attachments that are available, I can see the Dremel 4000 easily becoming my new favorite tool project tool. The Dremel 4000 is so fun to use that it makes me want to think of projects to use it on. So, I asked Dremel to mail me their DVD entitled Dremel Projects, which features 70 projects to use a Dremel rotary tool on. These clips are also available on the Dremel YouTube.com channel as well as their website at: Dremel.com.
The Dremel 4000-2/31 comes with two attachments and 31 accessories. The Dremel 4000-2/31 features the new sanding/grinding attachment which is compatible with all Dremel rotary tools with a threaded nosepiece. This attachment helps to guide a work piece to a securely mounted rotary tool or guide the tool along the edge of a flat or beveled surface. The Dremel 400-2/31 kit is available at Home Depot for $79.
