Do you hate it when your drilling with an auger bit and you hit hidden nails in studs, joists, or sill plates? It hurts your wrist and probably breaks your bit too. The good folks over at Bosch came up with a new auger bit with a reinforced tip to eliminate that jobsite pain and aggravation, aptly called the NailKiller.
Bosch’s Nailkiller does this with an innovative reinforced tip that effectively pushes hidden nails to the side when the bit makes contact and allows a more aggressive part of the bit to cut through the fasteners. Kind of like a shark just chomping through your bones to eat the meat and guts. The result is that this auger bit lasts, on average, nine times longer than the market leading auger bit, states Bosch. Independent testing of the Nailkiller bits revealed that a 1 inch Nailkiller bit was capable of driving through up to 301 hidden nails, versus only 33 for the current market leader, when used with a right-angle drill.
Another feature of Bosch’s Nailkiller is the auger bit's dual cutting edges. This lets the bit slice through hidden fasteners twice per revolution which helps you avoid the “kickback” experienced when drilling with an auger bit that has a single cutting edge. The result? 61 percent less impact force when you hit a nail while drilling (verified by independent testing) and less of a sore wrist at the end of the day.
If you haven't already tried Bosch's Daredevil Spade Bit, you should and will be impressed by the clean hole they produce because of their dual-reamer-edge design. The Nailkiller has this same feature, by producing a cleaner hole, even in rough drilling applications, Nailkiller prevents splinters from piercing electrical wire housings and wood fragments from clogging conduit or water pipes with narrow inside diameters.
Other features of the Nailkiller include a reinforced spine and the finish quality of a spur auger with the nail-cutting toughness of a ship auger. Bosch's Nailkiller eliminates the need for two types of auger bits thus saving you some money for lunch. Most Bosch’s Nailkiller Auger Bits utilize a 7/16” shank with power groove, which will fit any ½” corded drill, as well as impact drills equipped with quick connect chucks. Other shank sizes are available for specialty applications. Bits are available in lengths ranging from 7-1/2” to 24”, and diameters from ¼” to 1-1/2”. Available at Toolking.com.
