DeWalt just put out a new worm drive circular saw, the DWS535, designed for framers, concrete formers, and other professional circular saw users. This powerful wormdrive saw has some updated features that their engineers developed from the ideas that you folks gave them in the field. One that Doug over at Toolsnob.com especially liked was the Toughcord cord retention and protection system. "We assume that this is a reinforced connection between the cord and the body of the tool, which likely stemmed from the developers visiting jobsites and watching ladder-bound carpenters raise and lower their saws with the cord. We see it all the time (and have been known to do it on occasion). Now, thanks to DeWalt, you'll not only be able to comfortably hold the saw's weight with the cord, but you'll probably also be able to swing it around like a bullroarer."
DeWalt's DWS535 worm drive circular saw also features a sturdy magnesium shoe and rugged control levers and handles, an extra wide saw hook for modern engineered lumber up to 2 1/2 inches thick, and a top-access spindle lock that is easy to use, engages immediately, and eliminates oil leaks, states DeWalt
The new DWS535 worm drive has a 53-degree bevel capacity with DeWalt's patented bevel detent system. This feature let's you set common cut angles quickly and accurately. Additionally, the DWS535 worm drive saw has dual ports in the shoe to work with DeWalt's new DWS5100 dual port rip guide for ripping cuts up to a 14 1/2 inches. "The advanced features and durability enhancements of the DWS535 Worm Drive Circular Saw are a direct result of countless interviews with users and extensive field testing," said Jon Bigden, Product Manager for DEWALT. "We are confident that the DWS535 represents a major step forward for worm drive circular saws."
In addition to the DWS535, DEWALT will also be offering the DWS535T worm drive circular saw that features a Twist Lock plug. Both will be available at Toolking.com for about $200.
I spoke to my brother Joe about his choice in circular saws. He's a contractor in Buffalo, New York and a huge fan of DeWalt tools and like a good East-coaster, loves his worm drive saw. Joe always goes for top of the line quality in his tools and says that he just can't find much better quality than his DeWalt tools. Joe has both a wormdrive and a regular circular saw. He pulls out his DeWalt wormdrive circular saw when he needs to get through the big stuff but when he will be cutting 2x4's all day, he uses the lighter weight DeWalt 368K circular saw. And, for cutting up on the roof, he uses his DeWalt cordless DC300K with a NANO battery. Joe said he got into the NANO technology because it gets damn cold in Buffalo and he wants the reliability of Lithium Ion batteries, which will perform just as well in cold temperatures. And the nicest thing about them is that the DeWalt NANO batteries are backwards compatible with all his DeWalt cordless tools.
