Some Makita tools, notably the miter saws, are still assembled in the good ol\' USA. As for almost everything else, it\'s all China or Mexico. - Ben

As a Manager for Home Depot I will dispell the myth.. We Do Not Own Ridgid... a company by the name of TTI (Techtronics Industry) or One World Tech owns and manufactures Ridgid, Ryobi, Milwaukee, and Hoover vacuums. When I first started at Depot 8 years ago I also thought that we owned them. I wish we did though! - Tedd

Yup, you\'re right. The good thing is that they can\'t outsource contractor jobs to China. - jude

I am lead to believe, and I can\'t remember where I heard, that Home Depot owns Ridge Tool Co. Is that not the case? Rigid pipe cutting and threading equipment has been the industry standard since I was an apprentice (electrician) 40 odd years ago but their introduction into the consumer power tool market is fairly recent. As for liscensing, nobody in the US makes anything any more, all tools are made offshore and custom branded. We haven\'t developed any new industry to talk of in this country for year. Design it here and run to China to have it built. DUMB! - Matt Worner

Thanks for the great info. I didn\'t know that was the case with Ridgid tools. Perhaps Home Depot has an exclusive license for the Ridgid power tool line and that could be why no one else can sell them and you can\'t find parts anywhere. - jude

The Ridgid power tools, including the planers, are not real Ridgid. The real Ridgid tools are the pipe threaders, pipe benders, etc.

My company is an authorized Ridgid distributor, but we cannot sell the drills, etc, even if we wanted to. Ridgid licenses the right to other manufacturers for their name. You cannot buy any parts from Ridgid. They make you run all over the place, and the parts are almost impossible to get, and they\'re expensive.

Makita, DeWalt and Milwaukee are the top three tools, and they all hold parts for tools for many, many years.

So, the Ridgid may be cheap and nice in the short-run, but in the long run, they are just going to scrapped. - Colin
