Dick Cain, one of the regulars over at www.LumberJocks.com hand crafted this unique Love Chest for his wife for Valentine's Day. We followed the progress via Internet here at Toologics and are excited to present to you his finished product. The box was crafted predominantly with a Bandsaw out of Burly Maple, complete with carved rose handles. As far as the finish goes, it needed to be allergen-free and here's what Dick came up with:
"Barb has multi-chemical allergies, and I’m always looking for something that doesn’t bother her. At first I used mineral oil on it, but was a little on the dull side. Even the smell of raw linseed oil bothers her, so I was looking in the art supplies at the Big W and I found purified linseed oil. I opened the cap and took a sniff, no odor whatsoever. So that’s the finish I’m using. I mixed Beeswax and purified linseed oil about 50/50 and put the sealed baby food jar in some hot water. It’s turned out the consistency of soft margarine. I rubbed that in with a couple of coats, for a nice satin looking finish, with no odor."

From the Lumberjocks Tool Reviews, this is what Dick Cain had to say about these Irwin Clamps:
"I received a pair of these 12’’ clamps as a gift. I have never used one handed clamps before this pair. Now whenever I have a clamping job, I grab these right away. It’s almost like having an extra hand, & they have plenty of clamping power. They provide 550 lbs of one-handed force (900 lbs of two-handed force). I also like the soft no-slip jaws, & you can reverse them to push things apart, such as chair rungs, or when dry fitting cabinet parts. My hand screws have since been gathering dust. I’ve used them on several projects already, as you can see by the pictures. They are also handy for clamping down relief carvings to a bench. The next time I need some new clamps, I’ll be buying more of these."
